While finding and keeping a job are vitally important to move out of poverty, entry-level employment typically does not provide enough resources to keep a family self-sufficient. For long-term success, workers may need outside support to make ends meet as they move up the career ladder.
However, research and our experience have shown that too few families are aware of and able to access the available opportunities. Seedco works with public and private agencies to help low-wage workers access applicable benefits and work supports such as Food Stamps, Medicaid and tax credits. Once someone has continuous employment, we can help him or her sign up for training vouchers and ensure that applicable programs like subsidized health insurance are available.
As important, to protect stability during rocky times and create a better life, a family needs to build and retain assets. Seedco works as an intermediary to private and nonprofit organizations that help low-wage workers find a path to higher education and build equity through homeownership.
