Seedco was proud to host “Portraits Against Gun Violence: The Exhibit.” This exhibit was the culmination of a partnership between Artistic Noise, Seedco, and Senator Robert Jackson’s office. Over the month of May, talented young artists from Inwood and Washington Heights met at Seedco with staff from Artistic Noise to learn about photography, explore their neighborhood, and discuss the issue of violence. Portraits Against Gun Violence is a collaborative art project and exploration of Upper Manhattan through the eyes of youth, using 35mm black and white cameras and their own words to reflect on what their neighborhood is and could be.

If you weren’t able to join us on June 9th, Artistic Noise will be hosting another exhibit from June 15th through July 1 at the Hannah Traore Gallery in Manhattan. The photography of the students in the Portraits Against Gun Violence cohort will be featured alongside artwork from young people whose lives have been impacted the criminal and juvenile legal systems and the foster care system.
