Overview

Seedco’s Earnbenefits Online (EBO) software is central to our work helping low-income families to successfully enroll in benefits and assistance programs and to move towards self-sufficiency.

EBO serves as a “one stop shop” for clients, providing a fast, accurate, and confidential screening for a range of critical public and private benefits and resources, such as health insurance, food assistance, tax credits, and energy assistance. EBO is a comprehensive and customizable caseworker-facing technology that allows the worker to:

  • Discuss multiple benefits with a client in one sitting
  • Input the client’s information
  • Determine a client’s eligibility for multiple benefits and populate application forms
  • Help clients submit applications to the relevant government agency
  • On average, EBO screens clients for 20 benefits at one time

Current EBO users include hospitals/health care providers; social service providers; community-based organizations; affordable housing organizations; and government agencies.

Social Determinants Of Health

Social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. They include factors like socioeconomic status, education, neighborhood and physical environment, employment, and social support networks, as well as access to health care.

These factors are critical in shaping people’s ability to engage in healthy behaviors. For example, children living in neighborhoods without local parks or playgrounds have fewer opportunities for exercise. Low-income families are more likely to live in substandard housing with conditions that can damage their physical health.

For people with social and economic disadvantages, public benefits and services can help stabilize them financially and address other problems that reduce their quality of life and add to their health risks. EBO offers both providers and individuals or families an effective and convenient tool to positively influence health and social and economic wellbeing.

Results And Impact

EBO users include hospitals, federally-qualified health centers, social service providers, community-based organizations, affordable housing organizations, and government agencies. For health care providers, EBO is an effective tool to help them:

  • Improve health outcomes by addressing clients’ complex needs and integrating health care with social services
  • Promote health equity by presenting opportunities for people with the greatest obstacles to be healthier
  • Improve adherence to care plans and reduce readmissions at client- and community-level
  • Collaborate with other institutions to enhance community wellbeing

Nationally, since 2005, more than 219,000 households have accessed over $307 million in income-enhancing benefits via EBO.
