Criminal Justice Involvement
In June 2018, Seedco was awarded $6 million in new funding from the U.S. Department of Labor’s (USDOL) Re-Entry Employment Opportunity Program to serve a total of 760 justice-involved individuals in four states: New York, Arkansas, Tennessee and Maryland. The programs will launch in July 2018 and operate through 2021. Seedco was awarded $4,358,210 to serve 570 justice-involved young adults ages 18 to 24 in West Baltimore, MD; South Bronx, NY; Memphis, TN; and West Memphis, AR and $1,496,779 to serve 190 justice-involved adults in Memphis, TN and West Memphis, AR. Memphis Commercial Appeal Article Highlights Seedco Job Fairs
February 8, 2018A February 7 article in the Memphis Commercial Appeal profiled Seedco’s upcoming job fairs, which feature jobs in a range of fields, including construction, warehouse, forklift, machine shop, call centers and restaurants. Over the next 28 days, Seedco will hold 16 job fairs for the Memphis community! The series of job fairs, titled “I LOVE TO WORK,” are designed to serve participants in Seedco’s programs, including out-of-school youth and individuals with a history of criminal justice involvement, as well as the larger community.Learn More
In 2016, Seedco and our partner Bon Secours Community Works launched the West Baltimore Career Pathways Collaborative (WBCPC). Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), the program is designed to improve long-term employment and reduce recidivism among West Baltimore’s returning citizens who are nearing release from prison or home confinement. The state of Maryland just released their draft State Workforce Plan, which highlights the WBCPC as a key “example of Maryland’s efforts to integrate Career Pathways programming.” Pages 21 and 69-71 of the plan provide more details. Our partners at the Greater Memphis Alliance for a Competitive Workforce recently released two videos featuring participants and staff from Seedco’s Training to Work program, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. Seedco’s Mid-South Career Pathways Collaborative helps men and women enrolled in state or local work release programs in the Memphis area gain the job skills necessary for in-demand occupations as they reintegrate back into society. Seedco also operates this program in Baltimore, Maryland.Learn More
